For 25 years, The Community Foundation of Louisville has been helping people, businesses and organizations convert private wealth into community philanthropic resources to improve the quality of life for current and future generations of Kentuckians.
Since 1984, The Community Foundation of Louisville, through its donors, has built a charitable endowment to support the nonprofits that make the Commonwealth of Kentucky a vital and secure place in which to live and work.
The Community Foundation of Louisville (CFL) helps donors with their giving today and enables their generosity to continue after their lifetimes, supporting the causes they cared about and solving problems we can’t imagine today.
As the state’s largest Community Foundation, the Foundation administers a growing collection of more than 1,100 charitable funds established by individuals, families, businesses and other organizations that care about the future of our region and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Community Foundation provides personalized services that make philanthropy easy, flexible and meaningful for anyone and for any cause.

To help make the services and benefits of a community foundation available to more Kentuckians, CFL staff helps other areas develop their own community foundations in affiliation with The Community Foundation of Louisville. The affiliate foundations are locally led, locally governed and directed toward local needs. The Community Foundation serves as fiduciary and provides technical assistance and guidance.
CFL holds funds for affiliate community foundations in Daviess, Hardin, Nelson and Shelby counties, as well as the Wilderness Trace region, which includes Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer counties.
Grants and distributions from the Community Foundation’s 1,100 funds support a wide range of cultural, educational and humanitarian programs according to each donor’s specifications.
During fiscal year 2007, the Community Foundation awarded more than 10,700 grants totaling $28 million. Since it was established in 1984, total grants from the Foundation have exceeded $375 million.
